Searching for Significance

Anna Seaman, Folio by Alserkal Avenue, March 18, 2018

In this episode of Conversations on the Avenue, Anna Seaman speaks to Abbas Akhavan about his practice and upcoming show, which opens at The Third Line on Galleries Night (19 March, 6-10PM), part of Art Week at Alserkal Avenue.

Abbas Akhavan's exhibition comprises several disparate pieces from his recent practice that loosely discuss themes of belonging, property and objectivity. Although the artist usually works with site-specific installation, this show was pulled together to respond to the white cube space as well as shirking any particular curatorial thread.

"After 10 years of doing site specific or exhibition based work, I have come to a new phase where there is a lot of fruitful potential for a studio space. I call it a fermenting space where objects sit next to each other and they become contagious and in that friction, they can develop a new formal quality or theoretical overlap" - Abbas Akhavan
