Joana Hadjithomas & Khalil Joreige | Site archéologique Saint-Antoine (SaSA)

A presentation of works by Joana Hadjithomas & Khalil Joreige is now on view at the Site archéologique Saint-Antoine (SaSA), a new cultural space dedicated to archaeology, developed in collaboration with MAMCO Genève. Invited to mark the opening of SaSA, the artists present a body of work drawn from their ongoing engagement with archaeology.

Bringing together Palimpsests, Time Capsules, and Trilogies, the exhibition draws on the artists' longstanding, research-based inquiry into the invisible remains of cities buried beneath our own. Working alongside practitioners of rescue archaeology, and with residues gathered from sites in France, Greece, and Lebanon, Hadjithomas & Joreige consider shifts in scale and time — the uncovering, recycling, and covering over of history, and the ways human violence and climatic disruption shape the narratives we are able to tell.

Across film, sculpture, photography, drawing, and text, the works move between drone footage and microscopic detail, core samples and parallel timelines, offering a vision of deep time at once concrete and vertiginous. Together, they ask where we stand within an ongoing cycle of rupture, continuity, catastrophe, and regeneration.
