Farah Al Qasimi’s public art installation Homesickness is on view outside Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi.
Positioned around the museum, the work weaves together art, heritage and the natural world, linking Abu Dhabi’s pearl diving history with the landscapes and ecosystems explored inside the museum.
Comprising five large oyster sculptures with integrated sound and light ‘Homesickness’ draws on the UAE’s pearl diving heritage and reinterprets it through a contemporary artistic lens. As visitors approach the work, they encounter a physical and auditory installation in which concealed speakers emit a composition based on ‘Tob, Tob Ya Bahar,’ a chant sung by the wives of pearl divers.
