Rana Begum's outdoor installation No. 1574 Stone is on view at Kauppurienaukio Square, Oulu City Centre, as part of the Climate Clock public art series of Oulu2026 European Capital of Culture, curated by Alice Sharp.

No. 1574 Stone takes its cue from Oulu's subarctic light and the frozen sea, reflecting on the accelerating melt of the Baltic and the Arctic glaciers. Granite and marble from a quarry in Ylämaa are cut and painted to evoke fragments of broken ice — one face silver and metallic, the other polished to catch the square and the people crossing it, edges left raw and hammered where the ice fractures. Sited in the city centre, the work holds geological time against a rapidly changing present.

Begum's installation is on view until 31 December 2026.
