Rana Begum is among the 26 artists who have have been invited to submit proposals for the seventh and eighth New York High Line Plinth Commissions for 2029 and 2030.
Rana Begum's Vertical Fence reconfigures industrial security fencing into three vertical towers of pink, orange, and yellow powder-coated mesh. Arranged in a zigzag formation, the layered panels shift between solidity and transparency depending on the viewer’s position. The city remains visible through the gridded structure, which transforms a familiar material associated with barriers and borders into a monumental, light-filled sculptural form.
