abc Berlin 2012
The Third Line at abc Berlin | 13-16 September 2012 | Booth 3F11, Station Berlin Luckenwalder Straße 4–6 10963 Berlin, Germany - The Third Line will be participating in the upcoming edition of abc Art Berlin Contemporary in booth 3-F11 with a selection of new works by Rana Begum.
Bringing together 129 galleries from 18 countries around the world, Art Berlin Contemporary in partnership with Berlin Art Week will be taking place in a customized structure developed by Manuel Reader that provides an environmentally sustainable setting for visitors and galleries alike. “It gives The Third Line great pleasure to use Art Berlin Contemporary as a platform to introduce Rana Begum’s exciting new body of work,” says gallery Director Laila Binbrek. Begum commands the
attention of her audience with the shifting perspectives of her three dimensional pieces. Lodged between optical art and minimalism, Begum's works draw their inspiration from repetitive geometric patterns found within Islamic art and urban architecture. Begum's work is crystalline, simple, pure and hard-edged. She takes her experience of
the vibrant collage of the urban environment and concentrates it through a process of refinement and filtration. Her work, minimal in its formal language, imposes order and system, as all art must, by abstracting those moments of accidental, aesthetic wonder. We find bands of deep colour that slowly bleed into each other or else, sit hard by each other. Each mini-colour field might be imagined as representing a momentary visual memory, the remembrance of a colour seen in a specific place and at a specific time, reified, becoming a perfect version of itself.
